  3.                    Installing Adapter and Network Drivers

  6.   The EtherDisk diskette provides the necessary software, utilities, and
  7.   documentation to use 3Com's EtherLink II adapters with various network
  8.   operating systems (NOSs).  The diskette also includes the diagnostic
  9.   program and additional files containing user information.  The adapter
  10.   guide packaged with the adapter gives important information on adapter
  11.   installation and use.  It should be used together with the EtherDisk
  12.   diskette.

  14.   Before you install the network drivers, make sure that you:
  15.  
  16.        - Install your adapter
  17.        - Configure the computer (if applicable)
  18.        - Run the diagnostic program
  19.        - Connect to the network
  20.  
  21.   Refer to the adapter guide or use [F1] for more information.

  23.   NOTE:  Unless otherwise indicated, the term "EtherLink II adapter" refers
  24.   to the EtherLink II (3C503), EtherLink II TP (3C503-TP), EtherLink II/16
  25.   (3C503-16), or EtherLink II/16 TP (3C503-16-TP) adapters.  All of these 
  26.   adapters must be selected as an EtherLink II adapter in your setup
  27.   program (for example, Novell's WSGEN) during the installation procedure.

  30.   Installing/Updating Network Drivers

  33.   The EtherDisk diskette contains updated versions of the network
  34.   drivers for the EtherLink II adapter.  The utility program on this
  35.   diskette automatically updates the drivers onto your workstation or
  36.   server.  
  37.  
  38.   -  If you are installing your operating system for the first time or
  39.      if you need to reinstall your operating system, load the original
  40.      drivers that came with the software.  Then update the drivers by
  41.      choosing the menu items on the EtherDisk diskette.

  43.   -  If you are only updating the current drivers, insert the EtherDisk
  44.      diskette and follow the instructions in the Menu Program.

  46.   -  If you are installing a new 3Com adapter in the current network, 
  47.      choose the menu items on the diskette to update the drivers that 
  48.      are in the operating system.  
  49.  
  50.   -  If you are installing a new 3Com adapter in a computer that was
  51.      configured for another network adapter, first reinstall the original 
  52.      drivers from the operating system and reconfigure the old drivers to 
  53.      run with the new adapter.  Then update the drivers by choosing the 
  54.      appropriate menu items on the diskette.
